Remote Meter Reading
Remote meter reading is the transfer of index values from calorimeters, water meters and heat cost allocators to a central system over a wired or wireless network, without entering the individual apartment. Nobody has to be at home on reading day, and because no figure is copied by hand, transcription errors disappear.

Why does manual reading fail?
Three problems repeat in manual reading: meters that cannot be read because nobody is home, digits mistyped while copying, and reading dates drifting from flat to flat. All three land in the invoice — and one unread flat distorts everyone else’s share, because allocation is calculated over the building total.
With remote reading every meter is read at the same moment on the same date. A meter that cannot be read is never estimated; it is flagged as unread and passed to the technical team. That distinction matters: an estimated index comes back next period as a consumption figure twice the size, and the resident disputes it.
Which communication method do you use?
It depends on the building. Where cabling exists, wired M-Bus is the most stable option; in an occupied building where cabling would mean breaking walls, wireless M-Bus is preferred; across scattered site layouts, LoRaWAN covers more ground from a single gateway. We install all three and combine them in the same site when block structures differ.
Do our existing meters have to be replaced?
Usually not. If the meter has an M-Bus output or a wireless module, it stays and only the communication infrastructure is installed. Purely mechanical meters without communication capability must be replaced, and we state that clearly at survey stage — it is the line item that drives the budget.

Frequently asked questions
Does anyone need to enter the apartment?
No. Once the system is installed, readings require no access to the apartment. Access is only needed during the initial installation, at the point where the meter sits.
How often are meters read?
Monthly reading is enough for cost allocation; the system can also read daily. Daily reading helps detect leaks and faults — a sudden jump in one flat is noticed without waiting for month end.
What happens if a meter cannot be read?
It is flagged as unread and passed to the technical team. No estimated index is written. An estimate returns next period as a doubled consumption figure and produces a dispute.
Is remote reading legally required in Türkiye?
Remote reading itself is not mandatory. What is mandatory is measuring and allocating consumption in centrally heated buildings, under Law no. 5627 on Energy Efficiency and its implementing regulation. Remote reading is the most error-free way to meet that obligation.
